Programming suggestions are now open for FOGCon! Suggest programming items here.

(For those of you who don't know, FOGCon is a new literary speculative fiction convention in San Francisco, to be held March 11-13, 2011.) This year's theme for FOGCon is The City.

Can we brainstorm here?

I've heard, informally, that they're interested in transformative fandom content, but that some parts of FOGCon are uncomfortable with it. So someone was saying it would be good to try and suggest things that are more meta-ish and less like "how to rip DVDs to make vids" or whatever. (Yeah, like anyone actually does panels like that anyway.)

Yeah, branstorming here would be excellent. One other thing to note is that because it's aiming to be a literary con, it's also a good idea to stick largely to book-related meta as opposed to things that come up primarily in media fandom.

There's already talk about having a panel on writerfails, called something like "how not to destroy your writing career on the internet."

When they say "media fandom" do they mean things that are on TV/movies, or do they mean "transformative fandom" or whatever the sparkly pony/pretty princess thing is?

Because if media fandom = transformative fandom then "talk about transformative fandom as it applies to book fandom" is ummm.

I would also argue that fanfic-centric fandom *is* literary fandom -- what are we doing if not writing and reading?

Replying to self... so turning that into a brainstorming thingy, what about something like "turning media fandom literary -- how fanfic can improve tv and movies" or something?

In this case, "media fandom" = tv/movies.

Also, I should mention that "they" = "we" for me now--I'm the volunteer coordinator for the con.
